WRONG. John and George may have subsequently fallen out with Spector, but his masterpiece production of Long and Winding Road took the song to number 1 and they were right to support it. Beatles tracks from Yesterday, through She's Leaving Home, Penny Lane, Martha My Dear etc (the list goes on and on with I Am The Walrus and so many others) had benefitted from added orchestral instruments, and Paul later used the Spector arrangement live.

I love Spector's version, and I think Paul has come to like it too. One can always listen to the "original" on the "Naked" album version, but I, and many others, love the Spector version.

Doesn’t matter what we think of each version, John and George were wrong to give Spector free range. Paul was wrong for not checking in with him. I love all versions.

Paul had every right to be livid but I think Phil Spector did a signature wall of sound production that might have been the last great thing he did and I think if Paul wanted to he could have rerecorded it

Paul's influence originally helped the Beatles have universal appeal to all ages by writing what John called, 'granny songs.' By 1969 though, he wanted to be done with that and just have this smokey piano-bar tune. Spector stole that from him behind his back and his friends let it happen.
