Charles Barkley On Superteams In The NBA 🚫 | @ESPN #shorts

Stephen A Smith asks Charles Barkley on the difference between his two moves that landed him in Phoenix and Houston compared to players nowadays demanding trades to put themselves in better situations to win NBA championships. Charles doesn't hold any punches back and gives his opinion on why they were different; Charles never asked for a trade out of either team and yet he still managed to lead the Phoenix Suns to an NBA Finals appearance in his first season in Phoenix. Charles also gives credit to Dirk Nowitzki for never straying from the Mavs organization and still winning an NBA championship.

His point is he was traded he didn’t force his way out & he didn’t leave to join MJ, Bird, or Magic. By the time he got to HOU he washed so was Pippen.

Giannis win an NBA championship in 2021-2022 with the Milwaukee Bucks with regular All-Stars and hard working basketball players just like him and he didn't have to join a super team to get the job done # Real Talk, hard work really pays off.

I'm with Barkley, Dirks championship in 11 over the heat was worth more than the 12 an 13 heat championships put together. To me I always wanted to gage my performance, I wanted to win not necessarily be the best or mvp, but demand respect from the opposition. To be the best you have to beat the best, in any sport I've played I've always found my absolute best performances come from being pushed to that limit by the other competitors. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. Moral of the story I guess is you can't be the G.O.A.T if you join your competition. You may win an everyone might think your the best ever, but you'll never be pushed to be your best, an that to me is worst than losing.

People who have no competitive spirit won’t understand this…

Looking at ring count is one of the worst ways to judge an athlete in a team sport

Barkley didn't lose to MJ, then call up the Bulls in the offseason and say, "MJ, make room for me! I'm coming to Chi-town!!!" LeBron couldn't win in Cleveland and called up Wade and Bosch and STILL couldn't win the first year! The moment he thought he couldn't win in Miami anymore, he left. The moment he thought he couldn't win in Cleveland the 2nd time, he left. And let's not even talk about what KD did. That's the softest move in all of sports. I can't think of a softer move. His two rings mean nothing to any sports fan who's paying attention.

I love this mindset in basketball, in (football) soccer if a great player is on a weaker team he’ll join a big time a year or 2 later and the cycle just repeats

It’s hard to gage how good someone is until they beat their rivals.

If the media didn't focus so much on title count when comparing players and their legacies, they wouldn't want to join a super team as much.

Dirk easily has a top3 championship in terms of difficulty

I agree with Charles 100% I've been saying that for years Dirk's 2011 championship is worth like three of them. That was one of the best Championship runs we've seen in a long time.

He's right. When you would rather team up with, rather than face your competition, wins don't mean anything. True competitors want to beat the best, as a measuring stick for their greatness.Giannis, Dirk, Jokic rings mean more than LeBron, KD rings.

Chucks right. Those days, guys didn’t cry and whine to be traded. But to be fair, teams were also more loyal and willing to reason with players. Goes both ways. But today, the players take advantage of, and abuse their power.

Dirk’s one championship holds so much weight. His competition was crazy that year and they still managed to pull it off. Shout out Dirk and the Mavs. 💯

Bron joined Miami to win, just to avoid the stigma of not being labeled as "not being able to do it on his own" Bron didn't even start leading or learning to finish games until well into his 30s...I give him "great" status but not "legend" status

Back in the 80s, teams really hated each other. But its very attractive, to go on a team that really has a chance to make a deep run . Especially if you don't have a ring. But yeah it sucks players now, can hand pick a team
