Thick fog causes havoc at Winter Olympic games in Sochi

Thick fog has again postponed a biathlon race and cancelled snowboard runs at the Sochi Winter Games. Warm temperatures at the Games have failed to disrupt the sporting action but thick cloud cover in the mountains at Rosa Khutor meant the men's biathlon 15km mass start and men's snowboard cross could not go ahead as planned. The spokesman of the German Skiing Federation, however said, the women's giant slalom training went ahead as per schedule. "The weather did not play a decisive role for us today during training. Yes, there was fog, just like for everyone else but we were able to carry out the women's giant slalom training, as well as the men's. There are better (weather) situations, no question about it but the view was OK. The slope conditions were fine in the upper part, so we are doing OK," said Ralph Eder. The men's biathlon 15km mass start was called off for a second straight day and thick fog also forced the postponement of the men's snowboard cross competition. It's now set to take place next week. Report by Jennifer Cordingley.
