Hoi An - Vietnam's Crazy Town! 🇻🇳 (2024)

Hoi An, located in central Vietnam, is a captivating town known for its well-preserved ancient architecture, vibrant cultural scene, and historical significance. As a former major trading port from the 15th to 19th centuries, Hoi An has become a UNESCO World Heritage Site, celebrated for its unique blend of Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, and European influences.

The heart of Hoi An is its Ancient Town, a labyrinth of narrow, winding streets adorned with traditional wooden houses, colonial buildings, and ornate temples. The streets are illuminated by colorful lanterns, creating a magical atmosphere, especially at night. Key attractions within the Ancient Town include the Japanese Covered Bridge, an iconic 17th-century structure, and the Assembly Hall of the Fujian Chinese Congregation, a beautiful temple known for its intricate carvings and serene courtyard.

Hoi An’s bustling markets, particularly the Hoi An Central Market, offer a sensory feast with stalls overflowing with fresh produce, aromatic spices, and local handicrafts. The market is also renowned for its street food, where visitors can sample local specialties such as Cao Lau, a noodle dish unique to Hoi An, and Banh Mi, the famous Vietnamese sandwich.

Renowned for its tailor shops, Hoi An provides a unique shopping experience. These shops offer custom-made clothing, from suits to traditional ao dai, crafted from high-quality fabrics and tailored to fit within just a day or two.

Just a few kilometers from Hoi An, Cua Dai Beach and An Bang Beach offer idyllic spots for relaxation. Cua Dai Beach is known for its sandy shores and clear waters, while An Bang Beach, slightly further away, is a tranquil and less crowded alternative.

A short drive from Hoi An is the city of Da Nang, a dynamic urban center that serves as a gateway to the region’s attractions. Da Nang is famous for its stunning coastline, including My Khe Beach, often cited as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The city also boasts the Marble Mountains, a cluster of five marble and limestone hills, each named after one of the five elements: metal, water, wood, fire, and earth. These mountains feature caves, tunnels, and Buddhist sanctuaries, offering breathtaking views from their peaks.

Da Nang is also home to the Dragon Bridge, an architectural marvel that spans the Han River. The bridge is designed in the shape of a dragon, a symbol of power and good fortune in Vietnamese culture, and features a spectacular fire and water show on weekends.

Another nearby attraction is the My Son Sanctuary, located about an hour’s drive from Hoi An. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a collection of ancient Hindu temples built by the Champa civilization between the 4th and 14th centuries, set amidst lush greenery and offering a glimpse into Vietnam’s pre-colonial history.

For those interested in rural life, a visit to Tra Que Village is a must. Situated just a few kilometers from Hoi An, this village is famous for its organic vegetable farming. Visitors can engage in traditional farming activities, learn about sustainable agricultural practices, and enjoy meals made from freshly harvested produce.

Hoi An, with its blend of historical charm, cultural richness, and natural beauty, along with the vibrant city of Da Nang and its surrounding attractions, offers a diverse and enriching experience for travelers.

We visited Vietnam in 2011. I so enjoyed Hoi An at that time, with practically no people. What a difference a decade makes! Thanks for sharing.

Hi William, I was in HoiAn a few months ago and agree it was overcrowded. It is, however, a cool place to walk around and explore, especially at night when all the lanterns are lit. I spent 2 days there and overall I enjoyed it very much. I think you will enjoy the French village in BaNa Hills and the golden bridge. The ride up to the top of the mountain is awesome .

Many years ago I stayed Hoi An for a few days, but it was in the month of March, and there were nowhere near the people you experienced in here in May. It's absolutely crazy busy there now! Wow.

Another great video. as someone said, I went there years ago and there was no crowds at all. I recognize many of the buildings along the river. We ate in one restaurant all the time and got to know the family. my friends supported one of the sons wanted to get an education. Great times good food and it was so easy to get around. I would not want to be visiting back. Looking forward to your next video.
