ASTM D975: NFPA Generator Fuel Testing Requirements

What kind of Fuel Fest are public facilities such as hospitals required to run on their standby generator fuel?

As a fuel testing laboratory we test fuel test fuel every day.. We receive phone calls from Medicals facilities and hospitals asking questions about ASTMD 975.

There is a lot confusion out there about the requirement for testing as part of the life safety codes. If you read NFPA 110 it simply states that you have to test from among ASTM D975 diesel standard. It doesn't give any specific recommendations about what test to run.

Every case is unique, if you're responsible for a hospital with life safety issues then you probably want to pick a package that addresses more of the fail point in diesel.

If you're manage a facility without any life safety then you might want to pick a smaller package.

If your a facility that is mandated to test the fuel in your back up generator don’t just assume that you have to run the full ASTM D975 test package.
