3 Way Train Meet On BIG Trestle! Amtrak Flys By & CSX Coal Train Goes Up The Ramp At Big Sandy Jct

3 Intermodal Trains Need The Bridge At The Same Time. Amtrak Speeds Past Me In The Snow. CSX Coal Train Goes Up The Ramp At The Interchange At Big Sandy Junction. Norfolk Southern Coal Train Crosses The Bridge Over Kenova. A CSX Mixed Freight Goes Under The Bridge And A Norfolk Southern Local Switching Freight Train Passes Under The Bridge. These trains are in Kenova, West Virginia and Catlettsburg, Kentucky.
I went to Kenova, West Virginia to get some more trains in the snow. Trains really look a lot more awesome in the snow and ice. I was really lucky to catch Amtrak in the light. Amtrak was running over 7 hours late and I got it shortly after I arrived in Kenova. This is the eastbound Cardinal train 50. Then we see a CSX mixed freight pass by in the opposite direction. After this train I decided to go to Catlettsburg, Kentucky to get a train. A coal train had been sitting there and started rolling shortly after I arrived.
Next, we go back to Kenova and see a short train go under the bridge on its way to the Ohio River terminal tracks. It returned a few hours later with several cars.
Then the big action happens. Two intermodal trains cross the bridge in a row on different tracks. Right as you see the end of one train pass here comes the second train. The second train stopped for a short time and then a third train passes it on Track 2. After that the stopped train on Track 1 continues on its journey. It took me over twenty minutes to film the bridge action and my hands were getting painfully cold even with a glove on. It was well below freezing and my gatorade in my truck turned to ice. It was only half full so it froze pretty easily.
This is Part 1 and there will be a Part 2 showing the motel that I stayed in with a view of the tracks. I filmed some trains that passed the motel in the dark. I also got Amtrak 51 passing on its way to Chicago with a Federal Railroad Administration car.

Just watched your video of the container trains passing at Kenova WV. Many years ago it was my favorite town! So, I thought I would send some information about the station.

The decline of the passenger railroad industry in the second half of the twentieth century resulted in thousands of train stations being closed and demolished across the country. Factors such as airlines, automobiles, and new interstate routes significantly impacted the amount of passenger traffic. Kenova's Union Station also fell victim to this decline. The number of train stops at the station steadily dropped throughout the 1960s; the last reported stop at the station was on May 1, 1971. That same year Amtrak, recently created by the government to take over all surviving passenger rail operations, decided to use a new, prefabricated station in Catlettsburg, Kentucky instead of the Kenova station. In its last few years of existence the station sat empty, and was prone to vandalism and attempted arson. Union Station was finally demolished sometime in 1975. The lot on which it stood remains vacant.

3 trains on a aprox. train 1, 3eng., 154 containers, 82 train inside track.. 3eng., 255 containers, 74 3.. 2eng., 150 containers, 65 cars. Some cars on train 3 had single containers, and some had 3 containers on a car, and double containers, on cars. Enjoyed the whole video. Good girl, animals make the world go round. Jaw tooth enjoy watching your videos. If you’re ever down in these parts the BNSF runs through Bowie from Wichita Falls all the way from Ft Worth . And the Union Pacific also has a line going through Bowie . And COAL TRAINS ! But I’m sure you won’t get dusted like before. 😂If you do there is also McDonalds .😂

You are so lucky to get that many intermodal trains in one day, in a three way meet on one trestle, where I live at in Louisiana, only two intermodal trains pass in an area around my house Z194 which is the southbound and Z195 is a northbound going to Memphis and Z195 doesn't pass till 1-3 AM, so you had a very good day of catching trains, unbelievably awesome

I enjoyed watching this video, Jaw Tooth! It is always nice to see the Norfolk Southern trains crossing the bridge over the Ohio River and over Kenova, West Virginia. The locomotives on that CSX loaded coal train were working hard at Big Sandy Junction. You could hear how hard they were working as the sound echoed back after the locomotives passed the tower. That was a great sound! The catch of Amtrak's Cardinal was a bonus. I could not believe that the Cardinal was seven hours late. (Posted on 17 January 2025 at 1551 CST.)
