These are potions kids all grown up! Except the potions are now household cleaning agents mixed inside a porcelain cauldron for clout. Regular tidying up is now a potential revenue stream for future hygiene influencers and people who like to clean messy spaces. How Cleantok Ruined The Cleaning Community #edvasian

This hits right in the environment. Seeing all of the pointless chemicals heading down the drain feels bad.

Cleantok looks frustratingly similar to those cooking videos where people waste tons of food for views and content. I'm old school. I use two cleansers for my whole house, all-purpose cleaner and scouring powder. With those I use a sponge and an old toothbrush. Easy peasy.

No bathroom fan for ventilation because it would mess up the audio, just suffocate.

I think it's funny that cleantok has a crossover with overconsumption because surely it looks and feels messy as hell to have ALL this clutter around. Also, bleach & ammonia combos can happen in the strangest places. Did you know that if you bleach a toilet, your own pee can (potentially) react with it and create chlorine gas?!

It’s so dystopian. Some people don’t have enough and others are trying minimise they impact on the environment and then there are those buying loads of excessive crap to put down the toilet

I have had a cleaning company for 25 years. Some of these homes absolutely should be reported to the local Dept of Health, and in the case of families with kids, to CPS. I know because we’ve trashed out homes like this where the Dept of Health had to step in as did CPS to ensure the health and safety of the kids. Instead they’re making content for views and clout. Welcome to Hell.

the wood floor with all the water always amazes me. I assumed everybody had an adult around who told us "you can spill stuff on the tiles, but PLEASE don't leave a spill too long on the wood, so it doesn't get soaked and become moldy" if you had somebody teach you how to mop, a way less universal experience imo, they always said to hurry with the wood floors and to be careful with the amount of water on the mop. if you didn't, now you know.

I just can't understand pouring bottles of stuff into the toilet or sink, it's such a waste of money.
Like at the most you need a capful to clean an entire floor. They're incredibly concentrated.
Oh no I got rage baited lol 😅

Don’t mix bleach and vinegar either! That means you don’t use windex immediately after using a bleach product. Nasty fumes

The only guy I used to watch who did this content was Midwest Magic Cleaning. He did clean hoarding houses (extremely dirty to normal), but he also did regular content like "cleaning my bathroom" and his house... looked normal. It wasn't extreme dirty before, it also wasn't picture perfect after. It looked like a regular house bathroom before and after your general cleaning twice a year. He gave useful tips and he felt down to earth. Nothing even close to those unhinged videos with 5 different products mixed in the same toilet in color pattern...

Back when I used to be in girl guides in the 90s we used to go around painting yellow fish on storm drains and handing out flyers encouraging people to not dump chemicals down your drain because of the hugely negative effect it had on the environment. I feel like we need to bring this back for these cleantokers. Not only are they genuinely creating chemical weapons in their toilet dumping all those chemicals is dangerous to our water supply.

The people mixing chemicals without knowing what their bases are is scary. That's how you get mustard gas.

I know so many people with aggravated skin issues from overuse of laundry chemicals. Double detergent, laundry disinfectant, fabric softener and fragrance beads. All at once on a full machine load.

The extra money from dermatologist consultations, medications, dietary changes and the eternal quest for more hypoallergenic or gentle laundry products...

Ouch, really.

Clean tok won't clean the brain rot away 😔

This chick saying, use this, this & this to smell good was causing me anxiety repeating herself. That is not even enjoyable to listen to! No way..

People like it because watching work being done hits the reward buttons in the brain. It feels like they're accomplishing something but they're just sitting there, staring at a screen.

Over-sanitisation is harmful in the long run. While maintaining hygiene is important, excessive use of cleaning products and constant sanitisation can weaken our body’s natural immunity. Our immune system learns to fight harmful bacteria and germs through exposure, but if we sanitise everything excessively, our body won’t develop the ability to defend itself.

Living in an overly sterile environment for years can make us more vulnerable. When our body suddenly comes into contact with harmful bacteria, it may struggle to fight back, increasing the risk of infections and illnesses. Instead of obsessively sanitising everything, we should maintain a balanced approach keeping hygiene in check without eliminating all microbial exposure necessary for building immunity.

Not only are most bacteria non-pathogenic, but many are actually beneficial. These good bacteria compete with harmful pathogens, preventing them from multiplying and causing infections. They also help maintain a healthy skin microbiome, which plays a crucial role in protecting the body from external threats and keeping the immune system balanced.

If you over-sterilise your environment, you disrupt this natural balance, weakening your body’s ability to adapt and fight harmful microbes. When beneficial bacteria are eliminated, your body becomes more vulnerable to opportunistic pathogens. Additionally, excessive reliance on chemical disinfectants and antibacterial products can contribute to microbial imbalances, making your skin and overall health more susceptible to irritation, allergies, and other issues.

While cleanliness is important, excessive sterilisation can do more harm than good. Beneficial bacteria are essential for maintaining a strong and resilient immune system.

So, don’t overuse cleaners and sanitisers unnecessarily. Let your body adapt naturally to its environment while keeping essential hygiene practices in place.

Cleantok gave me bad anxiety about the cleanliness of my home. I got hyperaware of my surroundings about dust, mess, stains, discoloration, etc in the nooks and crannies and it became an argument point between my husband and I. After I realized what it was doing to me, I stopped watching and cleaned what truly mattered.
