Argentina's Milei marks six months as president amid economic turmoil

Argentina's controversial right-wing president Javier Milei has completed six months in office.
Left-wing groups in Buenos Aires convene to challenge President Javier Milei’s austerity plan, causing layoffs and economic distress. Milei's policies, including currency devaluation and public spending cuts, face opposition in Congress. Despite promises to stabilise the economy, inflation persists, fueling public discontent and scepticism over Milei's long-term popularity.

Argentina was already in economic turmoil, heading for the precipice. The problem now is not the classic "too little, too late" but rather "too much, too soon". When a sector is bloated, the process of natural wastage would be the more sensible mechanism for adjustment. Desperate measures have never served a society in turmoil.

while milei is clearly a buffoon, he is not an idiot: he is doing exactly what the groups on interested that supported him want him to do. He has a clear plan, it's just that said plan is all for the interestes of few individuals and he doesn't care if 99% of Argentinians get screwed up in the process. But this is on Argentinians, because THEY voted him. And it's not like heì's doing things he didn't tell he would do, he's doing exactly what he promised.
