Found a local hurling club in Denver 4 years ago and it's quickly become my all-time favorite sport. Wish I would've found it years ago. Hon the Denver Gaels!

It was 1972 on the subway in Toronto on a beautiful summer day and there were 3 lads with what I thought were ax handles. I asked one of them what were those ax handles, they looked at each other and answered in thick Irish accents, that they were hurling game sticks. I said I had never heard of it. In these days the matches were between Irish pubs. He invited us to see what it was about. We showed up and saw how brutal and mesmerizing the game was until one goalie was very badly injured. Those were the days with no helmets. I still remember, though, how attractive that subway rider was. Maybe it was my grandma Murphy’s blood that called to me to attend. ❤️🇨🇦

When I would visit my uncle in Leitrim, we would always watch the match of the week on RTE and IIRC, a hurling match would be on every other week. I fell in love with the sport. The fitness of the top teams is unbelievable and even more unbelievable when you realize they are all amateurs. We loved watching GAA football, but "iománaíocht" was on a different level. My uncle would just say when asked to describe it, "the loveliest sport in Ireland."

I was lucky enough to get tickets to the 2014 All Ireland between Tipp and the Cats. Took my breath away! Seeing panels of that quality, the only description truly is "poetry in motion".

Had my first "practice" last night after our Football training (Edmonton WolfeTones). I've had prior opportunity to attempt it, and have been hesitant, but after last night it was a lot of fun. Made for a good end to training...

Attended an under 17s match in Kilkenny this spring, it was mesmerizing. at halftime, all the kids run out on the field with their hurley and play! I then found a hurley artisan who shared his process, family history, etc. with me. Have never seen so much sawdust in my life but Mr. Bulfin was so kind, even invited me to tea in his kitchen!

I was introduced to Hurling when I went on a student ambassador trip in 2004. Ireland was one of our stops, and though we didn’t get to see a game we did get a short tour of inside a stadium and there was like a squash room type spot where you could practice scoring goals at a target with either the sticks (not sure what they’re called) or what I assumed was a sister version of the game but more like futbol using your feet.

i think this sport is amazing. The techniques to play this game at a high level is awesome. As an former ameriacan football player. I can related to the physicality, but the skill is amazing. similar to Hockey. I love it. wish i got to play as a younger man.
