The Statue of Love sculpture, is inspired by love the story of "Ali and Nino", every evening at 7.00pm, the statues move towards each other, to join in a tender kiss and embrace. The movement lasts for 10 minutes and ends with the two merging bodies only to move away from each other once again.

The sculpture weighs seven tonnes and it 26 foot tall, takes about 10 minutes to complete a full rotation. The statue was designed in 2007, and installed in 2010. Made of steel discs, it weighs 7 tons and is 8 meters high. Its construction took 10 months and both figures are controlled by a computer. In addition to the movement, the monument also features spectacular, colourful lighting.

"Ali and Nino" is a prominent sculpture which was created by artist Tamara Kvesitadze to tell the story of love between a Christian princess and a Muslim boy who were forced to separate from each other during the Bolshevik invasion.

"Ali and Nino" stand majestically along on the waterfront of the Batumi on the coast of the Black Sea in Georgia.

The monument commemorates the famous writer Kurban Said's novel "Ali and Nino: A Love Story," one of the most romantic stories of all time which talks about a love so strong, it is compared to that of Romeo and Juliet. Young Azeri (Ali) falls in love with Georgian princess (Nino), but then dies to defend his country.

The story was first told in the 1937 Austrian novel, Ali and Nino, and was even made into a movie of the same name in 2016.

Thanks for watching.

When I first came across a video of this statue, I just thought it looked really cool how they were so huge and animated and passed through each other, and I just wanted to share it and maybe tell you something about the statue, I had no idea it would end up being a love story.

It's sad that I can relate with this. I met the love of my life sevearl years ago and she means everything to me, but we are separated, Im in USA and she is in Russia, and first she couldn't come here anymore bc they stopped issuing visas, so I went to Russia twice and the last time in in new years 2020 and had the best time of my life. and then the pandemic happened and couldn't see her for 2 years. We came together in cyprus in the end of 2021 and I still remember the heavy feeling laying out on the beach with her at around midnight the day before I had to leave. And it was such a surreal feeling of being together but far apart, but also of total uncertainty like I may never see her again because of another possible pandemic. Then I returned home and the war between our countries started and now its basically impossible for her to come here or me to go there. So I'm just living with such a heavy heart every day hoping to one day be with her. It's just unbearable

The true tragedy was they didn't have arms so they couldn't hold each other.

Ali runs up to Nino, she's sweaty from running 🏃‍♀️ frantically, desperate to get to her man... she's breathing heavy...🥵. She finally reaches the love of her life, and falls to her knees...🧎‍♀️Nino: "Hello, I'm Ali: 😟...😐...💀

The footage from 17 - 44 seconds onwards it's a timelapse I shot in 2015, would have been nice if you'd asked for permission to use it.
