The Centenary Trail Canberra - Full Loop - On a Retro MTB

The Centenary Trail is a 145km loop around Canberra which is a must do. I actually never had much interest in doing it, but a few friends were heading down so I decided to tag along. I'm very glad I did as I absolutely loved it.
It's a great ride and this video shows a lot of it.
I completed this loop on my 30 year old, 1992 Mongoose Switchback.

Thanks for dragging us along, that's definitely going on the bucket list. 👍

At the speeds you guys were traveling, there was nothing boring about the riding portions. I thoroughly enjoyed the riding footage. Didnt skip a second! And 38 was the real MVP of the ride!

Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed that.

That is my home trail. I've done the One Tree Hill segment over a hundred times. During covid I rode it three times a weeks - with an early start I could just get through it and be online working from home by 9am. As long as it wasn't minus 2 degrees or colder for me. You showed it really nicely. It is a fabulous ride.

I've done all the other segments, but this is by far my favourite. Stromlo to Tuggeranong via Kambah Pool is nice too, but I find that hard work. I have a slight variation on the official route where I can get from Hall to Black Mountain (about 14k) almost entirely on single track and just three road crossings rather than the official route that has a lot of bike path and more road crossings.

Thanks again.

Well done Tim! That is probably one of the best videos about one of our best-kept secrets here in the ACT.

So glad I stumbled across your series. I knew this would be a good one when you started your journey in my fav parking spot for my early morning run on Mt Ainslie. Thanks.

Loved the Video!

As the designer of the Centenary Trail (and the arboretum trails) I really enjoyed hearing the perspective of a first time rider.

You pretty much rode it in the direction I always do (though I do like riding down the Murrumbidgee bit…). As I understand it the arboretum trails will officially be included in to the loop (including the loop to the top of Dairy Farmers Hill) - so happy to say you didn’t really leave the trail.

The trail has evolved over the last few years, and at the time we were constrained with the ‘7 day walk/3 day cycle’ requirement. I’d suggest that the Tuggeranong section might change a little, following the Murrumbidgee to Lanyon and then onto Tuggeranong Hill and back north. It’ll add another 30k but all single track with stunning views north south east and west at different times.

There are a few other bits of single trail that have been added and hopefully, sometime soon there’ll be a few more peaks for cyclists (with nice climbs and descents added - I’ve still got all of the original planned gos alignments 😊).

Sorry I'm a bit late here but absolutely love this one!!! I live 100m from Cooleman Ridge and ride or run these trails a few times each week. Great to see it on video and just fabulous that you enjoyed your time here. We're proud of our bit of backyard paradise ... the variety of terrain and scenery available across the area is stunning. It really never gets old. Push a bit more westward ... like all of about 15km ... into the Brindabellas and the ride opportunities are endless. We don't do that often enough because we're lazy and think it's too far ... well spoilt I think. Thanks again. Love your videos.

Great video. Having done all of it, and certain sections multiple times, was great view of everything it has to offer. I’ve seen many versions of riding the Cent trail and I think yours tops the list.

It’s the first of your videos I’ve seen, but I really appreciated the way you explained the side bits… like accomodation, and the arboretum.

As a local, i love this doco Timmeh. I’ve ridden most of the trails you took, much of it before it was incorporated into the Centenary trail, and it was great experiencing your joy at discovering each section of magic. Added to the must watch favourites. Keep up the fantastic, personal and genuine channel mate. Creog

Wow, what a amazing ride, and story. I think this style of narration is just fine for this video. Sounded like you had some reservations if this would work, well sir, it does. Great work! It is NOT too long. For someone like me, it can't bee too long. I live in San Antonio Texas, USA. My chances of going on a ride like this, out there, are almost zero. I wish I could afford to fly out there, but most likely it will never happen, so the only way cyclists like me will ever have a chance to experience this ride, in some way is through your videos. So no, it's not too long. Your narration, editing and music is spot on. Great work as always. Cheers from Texas!!
