Here is the very first episode of my 5-episode mini documentary series “Epic Cappadocia Volcanism!” where I explain the various local geological processes that shaped Cappadocia.

The first episode is entitled -General geology- and is a quick general overview of the formation of the province.

This series include 5 episodes of about 3 to 4 minutes each with in order 1. General geology, 2. Ignimbrite, 3. Erosion, 4. Volcanoes and 5. Civilizations.

Behind the scene – part 1: Normally, Cappadocia is pronounced something like “ka-puh-dow-shuh” in English, very close to how we pronounce it in my mother tongue French. However, in Turkey they write and pronounce it ‘Kappadokia’. I wanted to keep the local flavour and I’m pronouncing it that way, but I still wrote Cappadocia since this is what English-speaking people will search for in search engines.

About me: About me: I am a geochronologist and geochemist in the School of Earth and Planetary Sciences, at Curtin University, Australia. My research focuses on the application and development of the 40Ar/39Ar chronometer to establish temporal constraints on large igneous provinces, volcanic activity, and impact craters on Earth and throughout the solar system. I am the unit coordinator of Dynamic Earth where I teach Earth and Planetary Sciences to large cohorts of first year students. I am committed to actively transmit my passion for science to the public through school visits, radio interviews and news articles, museum seminars and popular magazine articles.
