Would like to add in which type of environment you will use the NAS (personal, professional, business) as most of these NAS manufacturers are located in Asia. So if you live in North America and need troubleshooting or hardware repairs then expect to be a longtime without your device.

Remote support is only average at best if they are in your time zone, otherwise there is a 13 hour difference from where I live and fixing problems remotely becomes a huge burden and totally inefficient/useless. Some manufacturers have an Advanced Replacement Service ($$$$) and they ship you a unit within 48 hours. So if you a run a business and have multiple users consuming from the NAS then it will have and impact on your morale/operations/revenues, be prepared for your BCDR (Business Continuity Disaster Recovery) plan in case you lose your precious.

My corporate clients use Taiwan made NASes (from one of the 2 major brands) for non-production data as they can afford to lose them a x amount of time and not critical to operations.
