You know I appreciate what Rachel is trying to do and how she does see some of herself in Amy but... not only was season one Rachel a lot more bearable and relatable as a person then Amy is but the Friends were super willing to call out and bring Rachel back down to earth more in those early days. Like getting her to cut up the credits cards with Monica going "welcome to the real world it sucks you'll love it here" cause yeah there's being understanding but there's also being firm enough to realize you can't just let the person walk over you with their old ways of thinking.

The reason Rachel turned into a more well rounded character is because she WANTED to change, Amy didn’t. Amy just wanted the results Rachel had, putting no effort to address her superficial ways.
