This mower ran last year, but it would not start this year. The fix is pretty simple but I decided to make it even easier.

If you’re not planning on running the mower for more than 30 days, E85 gasoline will gum up the carburetor and cause this issue. The remedy is install a fuel shutoff valve(turn the valve off) and run the the mower till it stops running and next mowing season, turn the valve on, prime it up and it will be good to go.

I worked on the same exact lawn mower and you just needed to keep on pushing the bubble and then it stays on until all the gunk from the carburetor comes out then it works like perfect

Had a similar issue with a brand new mower I bought...worked great for a couple of years...then suddenly it didnt want to start and run the 3rd year...i messed with it a bunch cleaned the carb and made some adjustments but it still wouldnt run...so I started changing stuff like springs and hoses...as soon as I changed the fuel line from tank to carb it starting running like normal...turns out the factory hose had rotted out somehow and plugged its self.

Mine does not start either when I press the bulb or primer I don't see fuel jetting / squirt into the carburetor when I attempt to start it didn't until the 5th try it turned on and stayed on . I don't know if the issue with my primer or diaphragm. Any suggestions i appreciate it

There is a drain screw in the bottom of primer bowl clean the hole in the screw and it will run easy fix

I just did one of these yesterday and 2 and a half hrs. Later it runs fine. Had to clean the carb by soaking and waiting while I cleaned the spark area and contact points drill and wire brush worked just fine .pulled the plug cleaned the piston with a screwdriver and air blower cleaned the carb with air soaked it again then put it all back together and it runs just fine now one to 2 pulls it sat for 2 yrs.

We always run our mowers with non ethanol high grade and put stabil in it in the fall and run them periodically during the off-season. It keeps them running. I have a 2007 craftsman with a 6 hp Briggs that still runs like a top even though it is still all original. The only things I have replaced are the air filter, plug, and oil. Starts on the first yank everytime. Take care of your equipment and it will take care of you.

Have a newer mower that is a bit cranky and have to tap the carb to get it started if it has not been run regularly. Once it gets going it runs and starts just fine.

The repair takes me approx 10 min using only a 8 mm and 7 mm socket, hose pinchers, Tupperware bowl and my lips/lungs. That's on the same series engine as you have there.
I do it on a daily basis on many mowers but more are quantum's and require slightly different tools.

Plastic junk carb. Had the same problem. Took apart the carb cleaned the cheap plastic needle valve.

Obviously the fuel jet is clogged in this case. Just pop off the fuel bowl, clean the jet with a wire, and slap it back together. 99.9% chance of success. While I don’t like the amount of plastic being used on this engine, at least it is stupid simple to fix if something like this happens .

Always took off the air filter after the winter to get the motor started. Extra air is usually all it needs

I love these little plastic Briggs / Stratton carbs, these are the easiest to clean and deal with, easier than a Honda carb
