Katie 💖💖

Thank you for giving Belle De Jour the time - it really is a weird one but I truly loved it! I saw most of the comments recommending Repulsion to see more of Catherine & I couldn’t agree more. ✨ also love Pierre!!!

Love this review, Queen!

I saw this movie on the big screen in the 80s. Brunel is the OG of surrealism. He made several films like this, such as Viridiana and The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoise. I saw all those mentioned, but they all blend together in my mind. What was shocking in the day, might not move the needle much today. These films are in the Art House and not the Grind House. The hipsters of the day loved these films and always will.

This is one of my favorite films of all time, and I am so happy when a younger person gets to see it. And I think when you and one of your YouTube cohorts did your "Hot Men of Giallo" ( a very fun video) I think I posted a comment mentioning that the equally hot Sorel and Clementi were in this movie. For anyone who sees this, as far as the challenging ending – which tends to confuse many people – try to think of it as Buñuel giving you an unknowable conclusion: One segment might be real. One segment might be Severin's fantasy – but you have no way of knowing which is which; it's like he's giving you TWO conclusions – and you have know way of knowing what ending could possibly be the "real" one. But Buñuel hits you a THIRD time, when Severin goes out onto the balcony and we have the carriage and bells – indicating that possibly everything you've seen is in Severin's mind.

I find it very edifying that Katie of the Night is unafraid to take some of her time to explore movies like this. Bluntly, she probably has a deeper cinematic knowledge than anybody she might know in real life! When you go from Belle Du Jour to Baby Oopsie – that's freewheeling taste.

Please watch Catherine in 'Repulsion". Also, 'The Hunger".

Bunuel's well known as the greatest surrealist filmmaker ever. I like Belle De Jour, but I can name ten of his that I think are better. You should watch Polanski's Repulsion (1965) to see Deneuve in a horror classic. Her aloofness is used to great effect in that film.

If you haven't reviewed it already, this isn't too far a leap from The Story Of O in tone, starring Udo Kier. It's a bit more spicy though. And as somebody who shoots outdoors as well, I approve! Just watch out for Sasquatch!

My favorite Catherine Deneuve movie is ...The umbrellas of Cherbourg. All singing no dialog. It's on Max streaming.

An absolute classic. I highly recommend 2 spicy Italian bangers made in the wake of Belle de Jour: The Slave and The Laughing Woman. Both were released on Blu-ray in the States by the wonderful Mondo Macabro label.

Definitely like these outdoor backyard reviews. Hope you can do more. I tried watching Belle de Jour once and could tell right away i wasn't going to like it and never finished it. So, your review confirms for me I made the right decision. And I've seen other flicks where the ending is a cataclysmic downer (Il Sorpasso comes to mind) so I'm doubly glad I didn't stick with Belle. You ought to get around to watching Repulsion one day, another one with Deneuve. You'll find that one interesting.

"Naughty" is my favorite subgenre 😂 I'd much rather see flirty naughty stuff than graphic ya know?

When will the new generation of YouTube reviewers reach the truly bizarre heights of 60s and early 70s? Say, Holy Mountain, produced by the beetles :D

Deneuve is aloof....being aloof isn't always bad....come on, Katie, be aloof! Remember---the world needs more Loofs....

"I was really annoyed with her character for most of the movie." "and I thought eventually she's gonna come out of her shell." "I found her to be very much WOODEN AND FLAT"
Similar feelings I had about the summer french film I watched a couple days ago Bonjour something something, I totally forget the name of the rest of the movie. From the 60's, that also felt too American.
Same with Toys are not for children which I watched earlier in the year. The lead actors in both films just felt really off to me. I wanted to like both characters but just couldn't.
They just felt too flat. Same with Klute, with Jane Fonda, I kind of liked Jane Fonda in that movie, just a little bit, but not really. I wish I liked Jane Fonda more in that movie as well.
