"Its like taking a cup of water out of the ocean and saying 'there must be no whales in here"
Beautiful analogy!

Imagine the first decoded message from an alien signal saying "Quiet, they'll hear you."

If you're interested in the Dark Forest hypothesis and like sci-fi books then there's an interesting series of books called "Remembrance of the Earth's Past" (commonly known as the "Three Body Problem" series) because it uses the Dark Forest as a plot device and it is one of the scariest sci-fi works I've ever read.

It is true that the nuclear weapons played an important part in the drastic decrease of violence during the last decades. However, I find it insufficient to attribute such a sudden change in human behavior to that one factor. I believe that the horrors of the first and second world war truly served has a wake up call for humanity, leading to an increasing popular demand for diplomacy and cooperation along with a clear rejection of sheer domination.
Case in point, the fate of Germany following the end of World War 2 was far more merciful on the part of the allies than the treaty of Versailles at the end of World War 1, in no small part because the harsh sanctions imposed on the nation 27 years prior allowed the rise of fascism leading to the worst armed conflict in human history.
Of course, humanity didn't change in a day and will cause further arms before global peace can truly be secured, but I like to think that we have learned from our past mistakes and are willing to move in the right direction despite the bumps we might stumble upon along the way.

To be fair, about your brain chemistry stuff. Even if they did have a different brain chemistry, if we go off the logic we have gathered from how a species gets to develop in order to become a advancing civilization, competition is inevitable. The only way for an intelligent species not to be competitive is if they somehow maintained an early civilization where every member of their species had enough recourses to be contempt and not wanting to have more. So either they're from an Utopia made perfectly for a civilization to thrive which is near impossible or they have become so powerful that they don't even have any competition to any species, advanced or not.

If you think about, sensors could be put on solar systems, and if there is a radio signal, or it detects something, it could be used to send a relativistic kill missile that was pretending to be an asteroid at the planet. All without them needing to actively interfere

You should react to Melodysheep's "Life Beyond" series. Truly masterpieces.

8:34 hard disagree with your general sentiment there, nuclear weapons ARE technically part of that progress by definition, it's not that we are progressing as a species to choose not to be violent but that our mastery of technology has made us act more peaceful than ever before, why? Because we could kill literally everyone in a single moment thanks to nukes wich are tech, so we don't risk it, also because we have figured out (again thanks to tech) how to be greedy bastards about resources in cleaner ways that don't involve direct conflict, yes, still a lot of death and victim of this "cleaner" method, but at least it has gotten relatively better than "we come, we conquer, we sell the prisioners we got as slaves, we move on to the next land"

TL;DR technology advancing doesn't makes us act kinder to each other, of course, but that's not what they are saying either, it does makes us walk on eggshells, an attitude that also ends in (relative) peace

Yes we are more pacifist then before, and im tired of pretending we are not evolving, there have been no major war with enormous numbers of death/casualties. Most of wars nowadays are proxy wars last century, we had 2 major wars plus the 10 days war when the USSR invaded hungary and that was it, and when you go further back in history major wars gets more and more frequent, people dont like to change they way to see things, so they stay in the storm not knowing that behind it, its clean, beautiful, peaceful and evolving

I think our worst existential threat would be a species who's idea of utopia is different than ours, when humans think of a utopia we all have pretty similar ideas, a good example of a species that's different in that aspect would be the orks from Warhammer 40k, their idea of a utopia is just war, and fighting, they r fundamentally incompatible with humans, and makes it impossible to coexist

There’s another theory that exists that says we might be one of the first sentient species in the universe, and I like to think that should give us hope that we’re not in a dark forest yet.

00:16:15 but of a human were to be brave like that, due to evolution they would become less brave because the ones that are too brave may not win against someone or something stronger

13:36 well ueah but that point brain chemistry doesn't matter that much, if they have a form of science they'll reach that conclusion anyway, weather or not they (or we for that matter) act uppon it that IS up to our brain chemistry (also, if you have science to the degree of harvesting planets you probably have a type of weapon that incentivizes shooting first asking questions... never because the other one is dead, any brain WILL consider it, of course weather or not anyone uses them being instantly or at all is going to depend but the fact that the option is there is worrying by itself)

Just trust in Luo Ji and we don´t have to worry about a dark forest strike.

in that last they meet but have you considered that there is a 3rd party or 4th one who might be a killer?
