This was so good to watch. In her memoir, “Hooked, ” she tells the story of how watching Patti Lupone performing the song Being Alive inspired her young self to de a performer. Glad she got to perform it herself!

I love Sutton too but, I’m sorry to say, this is far from my favorite performance of this song.

A great talent, but so wrong for this song. And Company (1970) was not in the last 50 years. Sondheim got short-shrift in this production. That fluff like Barnum was included and groundbreakers like Sweeney Todd and Into the Woods overlooked tells me PBS has really gone off the rails. To think they once actually aired full productions of Sondheim shows... now he's an afterthought tacked on at the end. Humbug!

I'm sorry I love Sutton but she does not do this song justice. It sounds almost upbeat. Not the melancholy reflection it's supposed to be.

Sutton should have been in Company instead of The Music Man
