I've had to run a tractor through a fire to get to the other side to plow a break. Talk about a butt clincher.

Firefighter here in a mixed City/farming area. Be extremely careful doing this with modern farm tractors, with computerized fuel injection diesel engines. We’ve had cases of tractors shut down by their computer when they suck in smoke and sense low oxygen. They won’t restart, be cautious and ready to run. Several very expensive total loss tractor fires for this exact reason!!

We never buy new tractors for firefighting, still using an old international. The reason we use old tractors is because they don't have computers so if the engine takes in smoke there's nothing stopping it from continuing on through, basically the older the tractor the less likely the "safety features" are gonna end up costing you cash or blood

We got our remote construction job shut down due to wildfire smoke. On our way out we saw a small sawmill operation with house had been evacuated. There was a fire starting behind the mill so we jumped on their loader and dozer and pushed a fire break in a semi circle behind all the buildings. Took us several hours then we parked the equipment. A few days later on our way back in we saw the owner was back and went in to see him. He was very grateful. We were invited for dinner and had a standing offer for a home cooked meal every time we were travelling through. Lovely family and years later we still stop in when we are passing through.

This is why I am CONSTANTLY on my guys to keep equipment as clean as possible!
Harvest dust is extremely combustible on its own, and we got diesel, oil, and hydraulic fluid wanting to add to it.

Well you don't have any hydraulic leaks, that's a plus

Imagine if his tractor shut down in middle of this and said " software update required, restarting now..."

Went and watched the full video. Love seeing a community come togethor to help each other. Gives me hope when we see so much hate and division on the internet.

Can’t tell you how many farmers on land across America that have saved, countless lives, families, livestock property from raging fires with their heavy equipment., as they say… all heroes, don’t wear capes

I’ve had to that very thing. A neighbor was burning trash and it got out of control. Call the FD anyway!

Back in the 60's a combine caught fire and my uncle lost 80a of corn. It was all picked up by hand to salvage what he could. That was on top of his dairy herd being put down the year before because of bangs. Nothing scarier than a crop fire.
