A magnificent series. Thank you so much for all the hard work! Fascinating how Forrest's error of judgement caught on and many people today still think that it would have been easy for Bragg to follow up and destroy Thomas, when in fact Thomas' army was still intact and in strong defensive positions. Forrest was good at a lot of things, but not always good at playing well with others.

Bragg was advised to follow up this victory but did not.Bragg's men hated him, he kept them hungry and ragged.Forrest called him a coward and refused to obey any more orders from Bragg.

Bragg lost the war in the West. His Kentucky campaign abandoned with a Major/Minor loss at Perryville and he never recovered; losing with more gusto at Murfreesboro. Only Longstreet gave the Rebels a victory at Chickamaugua. The cabal against Bragg was so great, even Longstreet refused to fight under Bragg and he was detached to Knoxville. The Union won at Chattanooga as much because of no faith in Bragg as for Union fighting under Thomas & Grant. Jeff Davis's loyalty to Bragg was a death-knell to the Confederacy in the West. The Confederacy lived on its faith in Robert E. Lee and died of its lack of faith in Braxton Bragg. The man who would shoot a soldier over a chicken.
