For the arm you could have cut multiple shorter arc lengths and essentially glued them end to end. You wouldn't use a butt joint you would taper the edges so you could lap one piece with the next piece. Cutting multiple arc lengths you could get the pieces out of a smaller piece of wood. In your geometry you need to move the round base farther back so the center of gravity of the arm and the headphones balances out to be closer to the center of the round base. Right now the headphones are over the base or maybe moved back slightly and the entire arm is out the back.

Talking about alternatives if you were going to make it again, would a bent lamination be stronger and result in less wood waste?

You could also make the bent arm from bent wood lamination. That can make it very strong.
