I surfed while these blokes were blasting laps. Who missed out? I did. Love watching this old stuff better than Supercars.

Barry Seton practiced and qualified for this meeting in the Group A Mustang.
Unfortunately, the Boss 302 broke a main bearing cap in the process, with a subsequent reduction in oil pressure, and the car was withdrawn.
This was Barry Seton's last appearance as a career driver.

Even in those days if you were not getting 100hp per litre you were not really trying. Maybe the then Group A rules may have crippled the output. The M635 came out of the factory with just under 300hp. The worst figure was 286hp. Frank Gardiner had the Germans over to work on the engines. In qualifying using 8000rpm ity waa a 375hp motor..107hp per litre. In Europe the Schnitzer 635s were getting 420hp. The cam and porting was pretty wild. Frank Gardiner sold the spare motor after the 635 was not competitive when they stacked they rules in favor of Brock and Perkins. With the 304 black block, Perkins was getting 440 on the engine dyno but the heads were the problem. They were great days.
Franks spare motor eventually found its way back to Germany after BMW did a swap for the M635 here. They said we'll take the engine, you keep the car.
