Madness - Tomorrow's (Just another Day)

Showcasing their uncanny skill at juxtaposing fairly downbeat subject matter with a jolly tune and a big chorus, Madness released 'Tomorrow's (Just Another Day)' as a single in 1983, when it stayed in UK chart for nine weeks and peaked at #8. Taken from their fourth studio album, The Rise & Fall (1984), the video was filmed at a more serious point in the band's career as they moved away from the nutty ska quality of their earlier work to a more sophisticated pop sound. They got to wear fancy dress though: they were still Madness, after all.

Behind all that comedy lies a lot of melancholy and superb musical phrases I’ve never heard before! Madness sound will last for ages. With all my respect for the band members, Mike Barson is a fucking genius !

It’s hard for me to comprehend that I’m now 50 this month and the first cassette I ever owned was the Rise and Fall and then Madness 7. I was around 10 or 11 and listening to them on a small radio cassette recorder with a single speaker in my tiny bedroom. Fast forward 40 years and I’m back in the family home, mam and dad have passed away and I’ve moved back in after a pointless relationship... late on June the 12th I played The Rise and Fall going from 49 to 50.... why? I’m not sure but it was memorable and I was pretty drunk 😵

Such a talented band, they could make their music both melancholy and joyful at the same time.

I don't understand why folks see this as dark. It's saying we all have shit times but next day could be different. I find it a real uplifting song if your in that place that you just need a little hope on the possibility of things being different tomorrow! It's my blue mood go to song!

I'm so pleased the intro from the Greatest Hits VHS is included here....This video just wouldn't be the same without the Murphy's Ford Cargo tipper truck heading back to their Tottenham Hale yard... 💚👍☘😉

Unlike modern music, where they flash around $$$ and babes you never get, this music actually made you feel good about your own life.
