Coins on military headstones and what it means

Each coin means a different things.

I didn’t even know the meaning of coins on gravestones, but decided to leave a NZ one dollar coin on the gravestone of my grandfathers company commander who was killed by the same shell that almost killed my grandfather in Italy, I left it there so the next person who visited knew the man was remembered and respected by my family because he was respected by my grandfather, I hope it wasn’t taken as disrespectful

Yeah, hard to talk to the family. You'd think a mother's grief would crush you but I was doing the crying and this woman i never met was hugging me.
