“This is the first large Nato exercise since Trump’s reelection. You could look at it as almost a foretaste of what the defence of Europe might look like without American support.”

Nato’s huge military exercise in Latvia shows Putin that the alliance is ready to take him on even if Trump pulls back America’s military support, says The Times’s Berlin correspondent Oliver Moody.

We must see the economic, technological and military “power” of Russia in perspective. Russia is indeed a huge country in square km, but only has (a declining) 144 million inhabitants (Mexico 128 million, Japan 123 million, Indonesia 270 million). This is about 30% of USA or Eurozone. The GDP of Russia however is only 4% of the GDP of the Eurozone + USA, this is equal to the GDP of the small countries Belgium + Netherlands + Luxembourg. And less than the GDP of the state of California. Relatively (per capita) the GDP of Russia is very low. Beside that the economy of Russia has signs of a 3th world economy. Half of the income is coming from oil & gas. Based on this, Russia isn’t a world power. And for sure, it isn’t a economic power. This is the reason they can’t build up and maintain a big army. The army they have is far beyond normal proportions in relation to their GDP. This hurts their budgets and prosperity permanently. In this perspective, Russia is a mouse with a huge superiority complex and dangerous megalomaniac dreams. The path the mouse chose will be its downfall.

As a Lithuanian I know America under Trump can not be trusted. This is why we need a strong EU military, with EU made equipment. The NB8 needs to be strong ❤️

Trump can be counted on to make everything worse and not care at all.

This is similar to an exercise we do to keep North Korea in check. It's training and a threat all in one.

Putin must be losing as he pleads for help from North Korea.

Everyone should be very aware of the risks Trump’s re-election will have at home and abroad! Educate yourselves on his background, on his rhetoric, on his policies, his meddling, criminal activity, twice impeached, Project 2025, etc…, prepare themselves for 4 years of this and its aftermath. Defend yourselves!

Scholtz has been a mixed bag. The latest call is pandering to the electorate. He is a politician first. TBH I think Ukraine is better off without his indecisive weaknesses

Invades with what? T54 tanks that are barely running? You're having a laugh

First of all why there's a need for Sholtz to call Putin, he knows that not bow to his request whatever it is. He will interpret it a weakness in the part of NATO.😀
