I actually consider to define RTT as a " focus on fixed squads/units at the start and use actual tactics to win a map with those pre-established units without making any soldier, tank, etc to not die in vain.

I do feel that RTT are more "realistic", since you can only have some new units as a reward for completing an objective or having a reinforcenment system like in Blitzkrieg
. And offers some intense combat, since you have to make sure every unit you have counts and not die in vain
making them useful.

But I like how in RTS you have the liberty to create an entire squad with different stances, it can be from offensives to defensives squads
than in RTT and I prefer to not have many resources management so I can concentrate more when I engage in combat.

It's a brilliant idea for a series! The gaming codex.

I'm kinda surprised that rtt games aren't more popular than rts. I've tried to get some of my friends into rts games like dawn of war and even the hardcore gamers admitted that managing resources and an army at the same time were incredibly difficult. I personally like the balancing act in rts games, and the depth and detail that most find off putting, but rtt games don't have that element of complexity but still demand strategic/tactical thinking combined with action. I figured commanding an army and waging battle without worrying about resources and building bases would have more mass appeal.

Look up the seemingly forgotten Myth series. Mainly "Myth: The Fallen Lords" and "Myth 2: Soulblighter." The third game in the series is generally glossed over since it was not developed by Bungie(of Halo fame) like the first two. It's still a decent game just not the same quality as the first 2.

There is no general resource gathering(beyond picking up supplies from fallen soldiers and such.) You don't create units, but have set numbers per level(though not always at the start of a level.) Each type of unit has special unique abilities and must use terrain to their advantage(like craters).

Both games have been kept alive through Project Magma updates/source ports(but the game is not open source like you typically think, it's just a set group granted permission to take care of the franchise.)

Really, a review said Elemental was an rts?! They didn't notice the end turn button? Or the fact that none of their units were moving after they gave them orders?
Okay, they probably just thought "This has little guys you control from a top down perspective- therefore rts." Sometimes I think the community needs to carry around a dictionary. To define terms such as strategy. Or real time.
I guess that's what's so frustrating about genres; every dozen or so people have their own defenition and the damn thing never stays still. That and some of the names are ridiculous. Multiplayer Online Battle Arena? The second heavily implies the first word, as do the other two words, so it could probably be summed up as multiplayer arena. So I guess Quake is a MOBA. And Doom. At least Blizzard came up with something a little less wordy and a little more precise: hero brawler. Yah, sure brawl applies to multiplayer fighters as well, but, you actually have something recognisable as a hero with levels and equipment and looting. As opposed to a name that applies to half the bloody games on market.
If you could find that article it'd be nice. I can add it to my evidence for why games journalism needs to be completely upended.
