Ueli Steck, the “Swiss Machine,” has yet again broken the record for a solo speed ascent of the North Face of the Eiger. On November 16, 2015, Steck took advantage of good weather and climbing conditions and pushed for the summit of the classic Heckmair Route (ED2, 1800m, 1938) in a mere 2 hours 22 minutes.

RIP Ueli Steck. A magnificent demonstration of master in climbing and mastery in life. His death does not mean defeat. It only means he never stopped doing what he loved the most. He was Unstoppable.

The fact that he climbed the Eiger north face in less than 2.5 hrs makes his 28-hr solo on the south face of Annapurna seem even more amazing. He even admitted to taking some serious risk in that climb. I'm really surprised these weren't documented by entire film crews, some of the most epic climbs in history.

Even us non-climbers miss Ueli. How can anyone fail to be impressed by this? It's such an incredible feat. Dead or alive, nobody can take it away from him. Then theres his other achievements, which are many.

I’m not an active person, I’ve never climbed a mountain, nor do I intend too. But this man is such an inspiration to me. RIP Ueli.

He talked about one of the most brutal north faces in the alps like it is some training tour, the man was on another level.

Watching this in 2019 makes me cry...
RIP Ueli, you are the LEGEND.
If the undying soul do exists, i hope yours is still climbing the mountains somewhere...

“The light that burns twice as bright, burns for half as long.”
Ueli’s death is a tragedy for his family, of course, but, in a way, he is connected to the rest of us too. He was one of those rare individuals who, by his example, inspired the more ordinary of us to be that bit better and exceed our self-imposed limitations. Human progress does not advance by accident; it needs torch bearers to show the way and we all owe Ueli our gratitude.
His family can be immensely proud.

I still remember the day crying when I heard of Ueli's death while climbing the Nuptse. I guess he died doing what he liked to do best...not everyone can say that. May his soul rest in peace.

After reading Heinrich Harrers "The White Spider" this feat is nothing more than unfathomable in it's grace and achievement. Absolutely mesmerising.

Seeing how he looked on that steep mountain, all alone, yet bravely taking the steps up and, I feel like, doing it straight out of love for the mountains, adventure and moutaineering, and being humble when he reached the top, left me feeling inspired. I did not know he existed, but now I do.

What a guy. The climbing world isn't the same without you. RIP may your spirit soar above the mountain tops you loved so dear.

Got news of his passing a few hours ago. Rest in peace to the legend. I believe that he died yesterday (4/30/2017) in a fall near Everest. R.I.P. to a humble and talented man. In many ways Ueli Steck and the sport are the same -- in that we all loved or admired the man. Thank you Ueli and my condolences to the family & friends he shared his life with.

Thank goodness Ueli did it in a save way! For a moment I thought speed climbing the Eiger north-face free-solo in 2:22 was slightly dangerous, now I am relieved!
