### ABOUT THE SESSION

Facilitated by shifting media ecologies, diverse modes of immersive storytelling have become increasingly influential forms of contemporary popular culture, as exemplified by video games, podcasts, augmented reality in museum displays, and place-based locative technologies. These creative endeavors intersect in numerous ways with topics and themes from histories of science and technology, and yet: scholars in these areas rarely focus on engaging intentionally with the creators of these culturally resonant projects, or with the wide demographic of people who engage with these experiences. Indeed, the interactive nature of immersive storytelling represents a set of dynamics that can’t easily be understood simply by transferring forms of analysis designed for 20th-century media. We are living in a participatory age of digital “incunabula,” and we would like for our sessions to provide a collaborative space for sharing ideas about what we know, how we know it, and what we may come to know, by paying attention to these powerful sites of co-mediated knowledge-making.

Immersive Storytelling is divided into two parts. This session 1 highlights "Creators," and it focuses on practitioners in areas such as podcasting, augmented reality and museum displays, and place-based locative technologies. This session is designed as a roundtable that will be led by Ivan Amato, Bruce Lewenstein, Fabrizio Nevola, and Alexis Pedrick. Follow the panelists on this exciting discussion and don’t miss out the chance to add to it by joining their Discord Server!

Session 2 is on Thursday, July 6th at 19:00 in Discord. Have a look!
