After taking our first overnight sleeper train from London to Inverness to visit the Scottish Highlands, we're now catching a rail back down to explore the country’s capital, Edinburgh. We’re staying right on the legendary Royal Mile, making it super convenient to experience the local culture, the can’t-miss sites, some authentic bites, and some barrel-aged sips that can only come from these lands.

ABOUT US

We’re the Lockwoods. And we’re traveling the world to experience—up close and in person—all the natural wonders and distinct cultures that our kids would otherwise be consuming only through textbooks and TV. We think it’s a better way to learn and we’re working hard to fund this little experiment in the hope that our kids will grow up wiser, kinder, and more grateful for the beauty of our diverse planet and its people.

A "close" is a scottish term for a passage usually between buildings. On the royal mile you can go up lots of those and find lots of hidden gems up them thr private ones will have gates

Dad, your accent is awesome. It reminds me so much of an actor, but for the life of me, i can't get who. You all seem so positive. All the best.

Close means a passage way .
The only ones which are private have gates on them.

Hopefully the weather was good for you during your Scottish trip, although rain and water is why we are a green and pleasant country, apparently 😂

Pity you took the word Close to mean closed ! When it means ( narrow ) passage as in you will be close to walls or other people 🤗 however some are closed as they are people’s homes and others are open though people live in the nearby houses 🤗❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

So interested in your research of how to pronounce ‘Edinburgh’, down in the south of the UK we tend to pronounce it with the ‘h’ on the end. When you hear it back it sounds like we are adding a silent ‘u’ as well. That Italian restaurant looked lovely as well. 👍
