At the 12th World Urban Forum, Haoling Xu, Under-Secretary-General and Associate Administrator of the UN Development Programme (UNDP), and Iněs Magalhães, Vice President of Housing at CAIXA, emphasize the transformative power of collaboration and local-level investment in addressing global urban challenges. Echoed by statements from participants in November 6th's Dialogues, they underscore the need for strong international partnerships, local resource allocation, and innovative agreements between government entities to foster sustainable development. With over half of the world's population living in cities, they highlight the critical role of local governments in delivering public services, promoting economic growth, and addressing climate change. By combining strong leadership with a people-focused approach, Xu and Magalhães outline a clear path forward to create sustainable, resilient urban communities. Coverage of WUF12 by the IISD/Earth Negotiations Bulletin is supported by UN-Habitat.
