The problem is the usps has weak unions who spend more time defending management than raise hell.

You’ve obviously never worked for the USPS. They are extremely underpaid.

During a really bad winter storm, I had 3 packages on the way to my home. One via Fedex, one via UPS, and one via USPS. The USPS package was the only one that was delivered on time. The other two were delayed by a week.

USPS is a service. It should be subsidized like it used to be just like any other federal department or service is. USPS is not suppose to be for profit. They can’t follow rules no other business could follow and still exist and still be expected to be self sufficient. It is delusional for anyone to think it is possible.

I hate that Republicans can openly talk about privatizing the post office and social security but the idea of nationalizing healthcare is out of the question for both parties. We need to oust both parties leadership.

There are already privatized versions, Fed Ex and UPS whose goal is to be profitable. The post office is not meant to be profitable, if it was then people would bitch 100x more about the post office being greedy.

One of the big reasons they want privatization is real estate. The USPS owns a lot of prime real estate around the country.

Usps would save a crazy amount of money if you get rid of over inflation of management. They hired so many & still haven't stopped. There's so many positions that have no use that make close or more than 100k a year. Raises going to management heavily especially the president giving himself a massive one. Upper positions needs pay cuts. Less of them. Increase & get rid of CCA position. You'll see a massive revenue increase.

This man clearly has no idea what he’s talking about!!! We are in competition as we speak…. We deliver Amazon Sundays because we need to generate revenue if it wasn’t for fedex, ups, and Amazon packages being dropped off so our underpaid letter carriers to can work longer stressful days the usps would have gone under we can’t even retain help!

Imagine your mail in ballots being processed by a private company. I'm sure they would never put their thumb on the scales. /s

Privatization would mean no more bloated contracts to private companies. It would absolutely destroy Amazon’s retail margins.

The middle of America would see prices out of this world and force the states to subsidize through taxes…which is what should be done instead, but never would be. It’s not the population dense places causing the losses.
People don’t realize just how many private companies are dependent on govt contracts through the postal service, that could not/would not exist without it.
Vendors, trucking companies, software companies, mailers, vehicle maintenance
All those bloated contracts cannot exist in a for profit company.

privatization would be very inflationary.

kathleen madigan has a great bit about the postal service, vis a vis people complaining about the price of stamps going up, something like “can you take this to alaska in two days? yes ma’am that’ll be 55 cents”

NO ONE can afford to buy the Post Office’s assets.

It’s not going to happen even though it should so people can see how silly they are for even allowing this to be a conversation.

One of my coworkers was talking just yesterday about when he worked (briefly) for UPS, he was laughing about it, but it sounded insane (he said it was like being in the military--they brought out a big box his first day and screamed at the new hires "Get in your browns!!)" Was basically yelled at all day by the driver he was assisting. ("Go! Go! Go!") My point being, the pay might be better, but I don't think they are great jobs.
