Went from a size M to a L and I'm very pleased with the handling improvement. Bike tracks better than my 2017 model but overall feels similar.

What a coincidence. I just upgraded to a 2018 full squish after my decade+ old hardtail. They were both large frame, but this new bike feels "bigger" to me. That you'd find improvement in a size up makes me less worried it's sized wrong for me (I'm 6'1")

Most underrated mountain bike channel on YouTube. Also, have you tried the Hero 7 in low light conditions? I go to Highland Bike Park in NH and I'm not sure if the hyper-smooth will fair well in low light conditions (trees).
