I always, ALWAYS run up to them. wave wildly and go “haaaay!” like an already tipsy aunt during thanksgiving at 3pm. Its charming I swear

Quick tip for any of those who want to prevent this situation: if you're outside, just run to your friend. It's a bit more awkward to do that indoors, but running initiates the conversation because of your effort in getting to the other person. Plus it just speeds up the process, anyway.

In those situations I usually try to be even more awkward on purpose to the point where it's funny and then people are less tense. Works better than you'd think, but only with certain people.

This is good. Perfect infact. I once tried to counteract the awkward meet up by running up to my friend and shouting "Boo!" but it was not my friend. I yelled boo at a random lady in a nearly empty location at 9:30 at night. I cannot convey in words how embarrassed I still feel years later for probably making her think she was going to die

Avoid the awkwardness by breaking into a dead sprint immediately after catching their line of sight and not stopping until you've tackled them to the ground. Chase them if you have to, use all tools at your disposal.

Every morning when I leave the house to go to school, it’s around the same time that my friend passes by. She just stops and waits for me to cross over every time, and sometimes I try to yell at her that we might miss the bus because I leave kinda late, and those couple of seconds are just.. *SO awkward.*
