Άμεσα θέση πήρε ο πρόεδρος της Επιτροπής Εξωτερικών Σχέσεων της Γερουσίας, Bob Menendez, στην είδηση που ήρθε στη δημοσιότητα πριν λίγες ώρες, από την Αμερικανική εφημερίδα Wall Street Journal, η οποία και ανέφερε ότι σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες, ο Λευκός Οίκος ετοιμάζεται να ζητήσει από το Κογκρέσο, την έγκριση πώλησης και αναβάθμισης μαχητικών αεροσκαφών F-16, για την Τουρκία, λέγοντας σε ανακοίνωση που ετοιμάζει το γραφείο του για τα ΜΜΕ και για την οποία έλαβε γνώση η ειδησεογραφική ιστοσελίδα politico, πριν ακόμα βγει στη δημοσιότητα, ότι δεν αλλάξει γνώμη και δεν θα εγκρίνει αυτή την πώληση.
