It appears that Chomsky is referring to Trump's recent interview with Piers Morgan. They should really do some research before presenting commentary on something.

Surprised you guys don't know that n a recent interview with Piers Morgan, Trump DOES in fact indicate that negotiation and military de-escalation are the way out of this disaster. THIS IS WHAT CHOMSKY REFERS TO. I myself felt upon listening to this interview that like the proverbial broken clock, Trump is sometimes right.

Some years ago during the 2016 presidential election, Trump did question why we couldn't get along with the Russians'. He wanted to have a cooperative arrangement with the Russians, but then the whole Russian collusion thing started and Trump backed away from Russia for his own political survival. I'm not a Trump fan/supporter, but I do remember his statements and questions about why we were constantly at Russia's throat. He wanted to normalize relations.

There are number of things Trump was criticized but one best thing about him is he focused more on economy, trade deals than war. So this point made Trump in many ways better to handle such situations.

I love these two journalists, but it's clear they have never REALLY listened to Trump and don't understand his philosophy and actions. Chompsky was listening very carefully to Trump in 2016- I think Trump's comments from this time period are what Chompsky is now referring to, plus the recent interview with Piers Morgan.The best way to simplify it is a "peace through strength" philosophy but Trump's views are more nuanced and specific to our modern time.
