I couldn't find a good version of an isolated Ulla so I mixed one together!

"As it struck, all five fighting machines exulted, emitting deafening howls which roared like thunder"

I have some not so fond memories of my mother playing this when I was a kid. Scared the shit outta me. Now I’m a huge fan

This used to scare the life out of me as a kid. My dad would play the album often, and I would run away screaming.

Now im an adult who absolutely loves everything this album is, has been, and always will be. My father just turned 70 today & i still swear that one day as long as this is on tour, I’ll find a way for the two of us to go see it together :)

Absolutely love this album & it further reminds me why I got into doing live production :)

This cry haunted me in youth. Over time as I overcame that fear, this cry became a reminder to always push forward and to try uncomfortable things. The martians taught me fear but also to overcome it.

I really can't get enough of this.

I love it. It sounds so alien and haunting. I remember I heard it while watching the War of the Worlds game, and I thought "Wow this game had good sound track/sound to pull off this, " unaware it was from a musical.

When I won my first game of Stellaris I played this.

Saw the War of the Worlds-live on stage at the BIC last wednesday. My seventh time. ULLA!!
Hard to believe that Jeff Wayne is now 78 years of age!

This is absolutely beautiful, I don't know why but this actually is calming when it's not paired with a 3-legged war machine.

I don't know which is more terrifying, this, or the Tripod horn from Spielberg's movie.

'We saw Tripods wading up the Thames, and cutting through bridges as though they were paper. Waterloo bridge, Westminster bridge, one appeared above Big Ben.'
'ULLA!!!'

Okay, I was just reading 2000ADs Scarlet Traces (something of a WotW sequel set 1968, worth a read) and saw a Martian crying ‘ULLA’ (styled as OOOLLAAAA here because comics) which made me want to hear this sound isolated from the music.
You absolutely nailed it. This gave me chills and made me do an involuntary nervous laugh. So spoopy, I love it.

I can imagine a crossover between Jeff Wayne's war of the worlds and the 2005 movie version I could see it having a story where after their failed first attack on earth the Martians come back to try again a second time when the aliens from the 2005 movie show up and the Martians are forced to work together with the humans to fight against the 2005 aliens and defeat them it could actually end with the Martians actually becoming proper allies with the humans and using technology and resources from both the humans and now defeated 2005 aliens to actually start fixing mars and making it inhabitable again the Martians would use this sound for a victory cry with each 2005 tripod their fighting machines take down sometimes with a little bit of help from the humans

We've all asked this question at least once:

Who voices the iconic Ulla?

I like to imagine the Thunderchild sounded its horn as loud as possible in response to the Martians war cry, as a war cry of their own

I love the idea that this is an alien war cry. The 2005 movie used a great sound but this is an actual martian word that means nothing to us but to them is a celebration, the context makes it more haunting.
