Today we headed to Cheddar Gorge with a couple of friends who live locally in Somerset to complete the Cheddar Gorge circular walk. At lunch time we head across to a little known place called the Bere Cider farm where a pint of cider is the same price as a coffee, and spend the early afternoon taking a curious wander up to, and around the National Trust property of Burrow Mumps. This was part of a quick visit to Somerset on the way back home to London after having spent time in Devon and Cornwall. If you are planning a trip to the South West of England, you may be interested in my other travel vlog episodes centred around Devon and Cornwall.

What are your thoughts on Cheddar Gorge - too many tourists, or special enough that this can be overlooked?

Cheddar Gorge is beautiful! And the church on the hillside is striking as well. Never would have guessed it hadn't previously been finished.

Looks like quite a balmy day. We are quite cold here. Cheers on getting out and hiking, looking forward to watching the rest!

Caroline, Thanks for another fun video of your English Countryside hikes. Looks like you all have fun From the outtakes I take it the cider is hard cider? Cheers 🥃🥃🧔

Another interesting walk and visit. I tend to go these sorts of places out of season when there are fewer people around but I must admit I have not been here for years. I do remember some steep muddy paths though.

Cheddar only 30 minutes from me and only recently did the gorge walk, I walked on the side you finished on and then back up through the gorge, it was on my list to do and did it early one morning recently after nipping up Glastonbury Tor, I was out early that morning so did the Tor and the Gorge and was heading back home by about 10 am, Cheddar is way to busy for me once the crowds get there, hence why my walks take place before most people are out of bed. I know people that seem to visit Cheddar every weekend in the summer on their motorbike, I have a motorbike too but no desire to ride there every weekend. Those plastic cider things are called flagons (no idea if that's the correct spelling) . Not been to Burrow Mumps, I assume that's quite local to Cheddar so ill check that out thanks .

I drove through the gorge last year and was amazed looking up at the high walls of the canyon - looks equally as epic looking down. What a shame the tower was closed, from the video it looks like it's in great shape - you would think they'd find a way to just leave it open for hikers to use - either for a small fee or perhaps even for free (does that happen in England any more?). I agree with you about Cheddar (the town) as when I visited it was crammed full of people too - nice to see as it was a lovely place but the crowds did put me off somewhat. Love the out-takes at the end! Did you manage to drive through as well?
