ROH Releases ENTIRE Roster From Contract - Will AEW or WWE Purchase Ring of Honor?

ROH has officially announced that they have released every wrestler from their contract. ROH has been struggling due to the pandemic and their wrestlers will now be eligible to sign with AEW or WWE. My personal belief is that this is the end of ROH and i think AEW or WWE will step in to help out Ring of Honor.

TK just needs to buy the catalog and trademarks now while it's cheap. Tons of footage of Adam Cole, Kevin Steen, CM Punk, Danielson for content. Even the Bucks, Cody etc have history there. This will be good if they ever do documentaries. Won't be surprised if WWE makes a play so they can have more content.

AEW should purchase ROH and their tape library so it can be added to the upcoming AEW live stream service that is coming.

What shocked me is that they even released their veteran talents and top stars.
On the bright side, this is a new beginning for both the company and the talents who worked there. They have the opportunity to debut in MLW, NJPW, Impact, AEW or anywhere else where they could thrive.

I think AEW will end up being the ones who will purchase ROH. It would make so much sense just from a business standpoint, just think of them doing “ Best Of CM Punk “, “ Best Of Bryan Danielson “ and “ Best Of Kevin Steen “(assuming he signs with AEW once his contract is up) DVDs with ROH footage but I’m really excited for talents like Bandido to be on a major wrestling promotion. I hope this is a reality, the more talent it is the better

On January 11, 2011, Ring of Honor announced the ending of Ring of Honor Wrestling, after the completion of the promotion's two-year contract with HDNet. The final tapings of the show would be taking place on January 21 and 22, with the final episode airing on April 4, 2011.

I dont think it makes a difference. I like aew but lets be honest, even with Punk and Danielson, they not moving up in viewers. Why is that? Because as much as we love actual wrestling, storylines are what draw. Punk is not in some immersive storyline he's just having matches. Whereas Roman is in the best storyline in wwe and ppl are tuning in to see it. So signing ROH guys won't do anything if the company isn't producing great stories. Steve Austin's story with vince was the draw. Not the actual matches he had with whoever throughout the feud.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't WWE said they won't be looking for indie wrestlers anymore? So technically ROH wrestlers are indies, but they'll go full indies once their contracts expires. Also I hardly see WWE buying ROH, they'll probably know they can't gain nothing just to buy another promotion, since they'll kill it for sure.

Damn Ring Of Honor Wrestling is done never thought that would happen. Hopefully they superstars get pick up by other companies. I see some that was New Japan strong signing.

It’s a shame. It’s a damn shame. I hope ROH is able to make a comeback. Without ROH, we wouldn’t have Low Ki, Samoa Joe, CM Punk, Colt Cabana, Austin Aries, AJ Styles, Seth Rollins, The Briscoe Brothers, The American Wolves, Jay Lethal, Daniel Bryan, Homicide, Christopher Daniels, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, Kyle O’Reilly, Bobby Fish, “Hangman” Adam Page, and so on. It would be so sad if this is the end.

Sounds like ROH is either closing up shop permanently, and trying to preserve capital for their debt obligations, or to avoid bankruptcy (despite claims of plans for the spring), OR (I think a little more probable) they attempt a freelancer-only model, perhaps working on a per-night or even a per-storyline basis. eg, hiring a babyface and heel for 90days each to do a run up for a ppv or two.
