EXPRESSION PIANO "HUPFELD ANIMATIC CLAVITIST", with 88 keyless piano, mandolin, bass drum, snare drum, xylophone, china cymbal, woodblock, soft hammer rail, sustain, solodant, decreasing automatism. Build by Hupfeld, Boehlitz-Ehrenberg, Germany.
This instrument has not played for many years and was not working. Finally, thanks to Giovanni Vitiello's retrieval and set up works, it is resuming its functions and we can listen to it. There is still a lot of work to be done to bring it back to the glories of a hundred years ago, but let's enjoy this wonder!

the term reproducing piano is mainly used for instruments that reproduce the playing of pianist from that time who have been recorded on piano roll.
(for instance: Aeolian Duo-Art, Ampico, Welte-mignon, Philipps Duca and Hupfeld DEA and Triphonola)

a more correct term for the Hupfeld Animatic-Clavitist would be expressionpiano or orchestrion.

The Animatic-Clavitist, based on the standard 88-note roll format was the successor of Hupfeld's Clavitist-Universal, which was based on the 72-note roll format (like the Helios, Clavimonium, Phonoliszt and Phonoliszt-Violina)
