As an Iowa State fan, it is weird to read comments saying Iowa State got bailed out by refs. Not even saying the comments are wrong or unreasonable, it just feels weird to be on the other side of the complaining.

I'm old enough to remember the ISU Athletics Department getting multiple apology letters from the Big 12 due to getting hosed by the refs in critical football and basketball games lmao.

For those who don't know black gold and silver were their original colors. So really the color scheme is close enough. In 1899 they changed the colors because they were too difficult to dye sweaters. Ironically the change to cardinal red and gold came 4 years after they changed their name from the cardinals to the cyclones.

Hmm... not sure about the PI. It could have been that the defender prevented the receiver from running his route by forcing him out of bounds like that. But that's a rough one. It might have worked out in UCF's favor though, because it was still possible for Iowa to convert 4th and 10 and use more time on the clock.

For those saying that Iowa State got bailed out by the refs (and yes I agree, that shouldn’t have been PI), I will counter with this:

Did the refs bail them out when UCF failed to properly get set at the goal line on 3rd and goal when it seemed obvious they were gonna run it with the QB up the gut? I don’t think so. Great teams toughen up and come through in critical moments. The Knights aren’t a great team.
