Thank you. There is usually so much gatekeeping in this sport, “experts” on YouTube and Reddit telling every beginner they need to spend $2000 on skate sets and $100/hr private lessons. I’ve been learning on Reidell stock boots and they’re just fine for what I’m doing - glides, stops, turns, etc.

Thank you so much! Even though I’m a teenager, I’m really interested in getting into this sport! This is so helpful!!

I started with Jackson mystique which are about 100 and loved the brand so much I’ve worked my way up to the elite 5200p. I love a really hard boot that can last and support my landings. #jackson

I'm an adult with size 11 feet. No stock states were ever going to fit me comfortably. I LOVE my Aura skates. They scan your feet and create a FULLY customized boot for less than most custom boots. Other custom boots work off only a few measurements. Blades and boots totaled @$1500 in 2021. If you are lucky enough to be near an Aura dealer, check it out!

I’d love to see a video going over different blades! I stopped skating when I was a teenager but am looking to get back into it in my late 20s. I feel like I can figure out what boot I want but the blades I have no idea!

My skates are custom (around 1k) and I love them so much! I really recommend getting custom skates if you’re experienced enough

I love your content! Also what exercises do you recommend to practice being on the rocker of your skates? I really struggle to stay on my rocker in spins.

I was hoping to see what boot you end up buying! I have the exact same feet as you (bunion and flat feet with almost no arch). I’m working on my doubles right now and I’m struggling to buy custom boots due to their high prize. What non-customizable boot would you recommend? ☺️

Hi coach Michelle, I don’t know anything about ice skating but my daughter loves ice skating. This video helped me a lot how to choose the skate.

Could you make other videos about how to wear the shoes, how to tighten the lace, what to wear on the feet. I think you wore stocking in this video but another person seemed like wearing socks.
I am also wondering about other gears. I saw some kids wearing padded shorts and padded hat at a rink. Where can I find those?

According to levels, what do I need to prepare for my daughter? She doesn’t take a private lesson at all so I have no one to ask for a help. Thank a lot!!!

You have given me a lot of hope! Allow me to share my story… apologies for the long text ahead.
I also have very flat feet, not arch at all. My feet have always hurt when I do sport or exercise that involves stuff like running. I stopped playing soccer because of this. I started having my feet checked out when I was a teenager, and I’ve worn orthopedic insoles ever since. These insoles stabilize my feet and minimizes the pain I feel when standing or walking for a longer time. They are also very chunky; I don’t wear sandals or slippers for this reason.
When I discovered figure skating 5-6 years ago, I desperately wanted to learn (I have 0 skating experience). I never did, because of my feet. They hurt very bad whenever I tried to skate, and my insoles wouldn’t fit in the skates (rentals).
Now, as an almost 22 year old, I have dug into the world of flat feet and figure skating, and I kinda didn’t have a lot of hope. Upon reaching out to my local figure skating club, I learned that they don’t have any experience with flat feet and skating. They recommended contacting one of the only skate-suppliers in my country. They were sweet enough to come to my city and bring some skates for me to try out.
We went for the Jackson Artiste! When I first wore them, it hurt from the moment I stood up. Then I grabbed my old insoles, and we cut them to fit in the skate, and my skates were altered to make room for my foot-bone sticking out on each foot. Now it almost doesn’t hurt at all! I had been wondering if the only solution would be the have custom skates made considering my condition, but that would be very expensive for first-time skates.
Watching this video was comforting. I feel better having bought stock skates instead of custom.
I was wondering, could you, or someone who knows, tell me a bit about Jackson Artiste? I can’t quite figure out what level they’re meant for. I am a complete beginner, my local rink is not even open yet, so I can’t skate yet. I just wear them at home cause I’m too excited😂

Definitely don't spend too much money on your first pair of custom skates as you will be learning the basic six levels if you are spot learn to skate. The skates I bought can take me through pre-freestyle. My technician told me that they aren't good for anything above waltz jumps so no getting around that. The concern for me really is the blade's ability to withstand monthly sharpening. I skate six hours a week so I get away with one a month and push it into the second month (with dull inside edges lol). I would like to increase it to 10 hours a week but can't find the time for more due to my job but I imagine I would have to absolutely sharpen them every three weeks at that point. But if you are just starting and probably skating a hour or two a week, that won't be an issue for you so enjoy those affordable skates while you still can because I have watched a lot of YouTube videos and the skaters who are more advanced often have to replace their skates and blades multiple times a year.

I will say about the Jackson Artistes that even though I got them custom-fitted at a good skate shop, the bottom of my foot hurt a lot almost immediately when I get onto the ice. It was kinda like landing flat-footed on concrete without any shoes on.I've only had them for 5 months and I'm already looking to get new skates because of the pain. I'm not the only one with this problem either, so don't be worried if someone feels the same pain. No clue where it's from.

I was looking for more information on buying new skates but this video really didn’t have what I was looking for for example $500 skates versus thousand dollar skates. What material is better what stiffness is better? Are you more jumps? Are you more into ice dance? I want to go into my skate fitting with information and now I feel like I have to put all my trust into the skate fitter.
