Kat use a vac sealer bag for all your storage. Clothes and compressables like the garland can be compressed and stored under the bed. Wash your towels and pJs with borax, or washing powder. They will come out cleans and fresh😀

A lot of us do have AC. Some have dishwashers also. I didn't grow up with a dishwasher, so I'm fine not having one. It's another appliance to deal with.
Electricity is not cheap here. Life in the tropics, insects everywhere. Be glad it's a roach and not a mouse or rat or a centipede.

You can hose down those garlands with dawn and a hose. My ones from the 1990's are still good to go. The pajamas, just run them on santize in the washer with the laundry sanitizer liquid. Clorox all solid surfaces, good as new, good as new. When u store them again, store with dried lavender sachets.

You have such an open perspective, and you express it nicely.

Yes so true about no dishwasher and A/C in most homes. Older homes in Hawai’i do not come with those luxuries. I’m sure its a little different now and some people have them like portable A/Cs and such but to be honest growing up on Kaua’i in the early 90s many familes never saw those things as necessities. We just delt with the heat but having a few fans going at once. Getting outside of the house and cool down at the beach. Having a dishwasher was a rarity and if you had one most likely they would use it for storage lol. Also mold is an issue here so having a dishwasher would be really gnarly I think. We just hand wash dishes it was and is never a big deal.

Y'all on here asking why Hawaii doesn't have AC and dishwasher are making me laugh 😂 .. We have AC and dishwashers, people who own their homes have it. Like myself. On the more country portions of Oahu, dishwashers aren't an option because the water runs from a natural source. The north side of the island specifically doesn't have car washes or laundromats because the runoff will contaminate the water. Also, if you're renting your home most times landlords, dont put those ammenities in to keep rent and maintenence fees low.

Living simply shows how materialistic human race has become. Blessed and living in paradise is not a trade-off.

Spray all decorative leaves with Clorox spray leave out over night. Next day spray 1 part vinegar, 4 parts water and 6 to 9 drops of tea tree essential oil. Shake well spray everything.
This is a roach repellent 😊.

My friend’s family is from Hawaii and they put everything in zip lock or vacuum seal bags. Definitely invest in a few window units around the house.

No dishwasher? No AC? Why aren't those options in Hawaii? Would vacuum sealing things help? I get some things can't be sealed. Just wondering

Invest in some storage containers with gaskets, nothing will be able to get it! Good luck!

I lived in Hawaii for two years back in ‘07-‘08. We lived on the military base. My neighbor got cockroaches in their car and it spread to every car near them. We literally had to bug bomb our cars.

I'm not trying to be critical I'm really not because I love you guys, however, when you are storing things in a tropical environment. I would think it would have been a good idea to have all that stuff inside the bins inside of plastic bags that were tied tight. It's a small price to pay for Paradise. I'm sure everything is in a canister or in the refrigerator. You have to take a few extra steps and be inconvenience just a bit but it's still worth it in my opinion. Sorry about your jammies
