Pruning Pecan Trees Spring 2022

In this video, we prune the 150 pecan trees in our orchard. The goal being to remove low limbs so that we can get the tractor under the trees. The other objective is to make sure we remove any limbs that are growing towards the ground. We want the limbs angled up towards the sky to support the weight of the pecans. We use our Big Boy Tree Saw to make most of the cuts.

I have 5 year old pecans that were sticks when i planted them and are now about 16 foot tall.

Ah pruning the pecan trees, one of my least favorite tasks in the orchard. When they get older, do you plan on renting a lift? I'm at that stage now where it's getting beyond ladder height.
