I had a clear goal for this NordVPN vs MullvadVPN comparison - to figure out which VPN is better for what use case and see if some claims and complaints I found make sense. Spoiler alert - they do.

First, let’s compare Mullvad vs NordVPN from the inside. In terms of apps, the VPNs look and feel quite different. Nord’s app is simple and clean, so it’s super beginner-friendly. With Mullvad, my experience was different. The app works sort of like a browser extension does. But in this Nord vs Mullvad, ease of use is on pretty equal grounds.

❓ Does Mullvad have any additional features?

To be honest, I found that the Mullvad VPN feature set is pretty basic. That’s not entirely bad - it just means that this VPN is meant for one thing - safeguarding your privacy. In this case, I found Nord is a little more versatile.

❓ Are Nord features useful?

Yes. For increased privacy - I can set up a double VPN, or use the Onion over VPN feature. It enhances anonymity beyond a regular VPN connection if you need that. Plus, there's Meshnet for safe device connections, or here, I can check the Dark Web Monitor for any data leaks.

❓ Which is faster?

If I pick a NordVPN server in the US and run a speed test, I get usually around 250 Mbps upload speed just like this. With Mullvad, suddenly, the speed test doesn't seem to go so smoothly. Getting under 200Mbps is not something I expect from any best VPN candidate.

❓ Which is better for privacy?

This is actually my favorite part of my Mullvad review. I found that it’s open-source, plus, and what’s pretty unique, if you want, you can even pay in cash. But the truth is, the super anonymous approach isn’t gonna be necessary for everyone. To keep your internet activities private, getting a VPN the regular way is enough. Reputable VPNs, just like NordVPN, have solid no-logs and privacy policies.

❓ Which is better for streaming?

My Mullvad Netflix tests were unsuccessful; DAZN and BBC iPlayer also stayed blocked. Meanwhile, NordVPN definitely works for me, be it Doctor Who or British documentaries, it doesn’t struggle. I also tested Netflix capabilities in my NordVPN review and it’s actually among the best VPN for Netflix options.

I tried both. Nord has better performance, is way better for free time(streaming, gaming, etc) but Mullvad would absolutely humiliate Nord in privacy and security, and I believe their “no logs” more than Nord

No contest between the two, have both, closed my subscription with Nord recently as i found them privacy invasive. Mullvad offers better anonymity & privacy albeit offers slower speeds & pretty average when streaming Netflix, Amazon or Hulu. Totally worth it if you want to use a VPN to stay anonymous online. I would even go as far as to recommend Proton VPN (open sourced)

Ps: Mullvad via their custom DNS does offer an ad-blocker + anti-tracker.
