Comment below if you have suggestions for other tutorials. Check out my website for my online course titled "Conquering Class Piano 1" which teaches everything you need to know to pass an undergraduate group piano course. I’ve priced it at just $1 to try to make it accessible to everyone. The course contains over 8 hours of material.

This YouTube #shorts video demonstrates how to learn the interval of a major second (2nd). This is also called a "whole step" or a "step" here in the USA and in Canada and some other places it's called a "tone" or a "whole tone." White-white, white-black, and black-black keys are used to demonstrate how major 2nds may look on the keyboard, depending on which notes are written on the page. The important things to remember are that major 2nds are called "major" because there is one empty key in between the two keys and they're called “2nds” because the notes are two consecutive letter names.

The "Music in a minute" series is a condensed version of a list of “100 things every pianist should know” that I have been teaching my students so they can grasp the fundamentals of piano playing and musicianship.

Subscribe to receive notifications for future videos in my series of fundamentals for pianists. The list keeps growing and will eventually be much longer than just 100 videos. Cheers!
