Over the years I think I've heard enough to categorically state Mick Taylor is the greatest rock & roll guitarist ever,

Mick Taylor always stood on the stage stoically while delivering his murderous solos.

when The Stones had a lead guitarist who actually practiced, and made sure to be as perfect as possible live, and made choices so every concert is different... the man who helped make them what they claimed, the greatest band in the world... for those years they had to prove that they were by SOUNDING like the greatest band... so with Taylor they were the greatest band... after that they were simply, The Rolling Stones... they didn't have to sound great, they just had to sound like The Stones... I liked when they had to work for it, with Taylor...

Fuck. I just found this. I was at this show, it was probably the best Stones gig I've ever seen, and I've seen quite a few. Actually one of the best shows by any band I've ever seen. They opened with Brown Sugar and I kid you not, the entire audience rose out of their seats, almost as if we had all been plugged into the national grid. This is a barnstorming version of Gimme Shelter, even without Merry Clayton's vocals. Yep, I was there. What a show that was...

I've always loved The Stones Live in 73' the best. I wish I was old enough to see them live that time, I was only 4, a little hard to do. Mick Taylor was one of the main reasons why I picked
up the guitar. He was never a gymnastics guitar show off with speed. Who cares, he had soul, feeling and played all the right notes. The forgotten Bluesbreaker. He still gives me the
goosebumps.

This interpretation is so magnificent, it makes the record sound dry and sterile. I first heard this on an FM receiver in 1973 during a live broadcast on the King Biscuit Flower Hour. This interpretation was so profound, I remembered it to this day. I love the slide show accompaniment that you've added. The Tumbling Dice form this show is equally majestic. Thank you for doing this.

This is the version that was on the old bootleg, Bedspring Symphony. I agree with others that this is probably the best live version of Gimme Shelter out there, and Mick Taylor indeed is fabulous.

The Stones without Mick Taylor were (and is!) a good band and that is all! With Mick Taylor they were magicians, wizards and Masters of the best Rock and Roll!!!
