Mac Davis was a great country singer, songwriter & actor. We just recently lost him in 2020. During his early career he wrote hits for Elvis Presley such as "Memories", "In The Ghetto", "Don't Cry Daddy" & "A Little Less Conversation". When he went solo in the 1970s his biggest hit was "Baby, Don't Get Hooked on Me". Other great songs were "Stop & Smell The Roses", "One Hell Of A Woman", "Rock 'N' Roll (I Gave You the Best Years Of My Life)", "Let's Keep It That Way", "Texas In My Rear View Mirror", "Hooked On Music" etc. Davis also starred in his own variety show, a Broadway musical, & various films & TV shows.

Mac Davis was a fun guy. He wasn't afraid to make fun of himself.

Mac hailed from Lubbock, TX. He was perfectly cast in the movie "North Dallas Forty" (1979) as the character based off of Don Meredith. During his early career he wrote for Elvis Presley, providing him with the hits "Memories", "In the Ghetto", "Don't Cry Daddy", and "A Little Less Conversation". A subsequent solo career in the 1970s produced hits such as "Baby, Don't Get Hooked on Me". Davis also starred in his own variety show, a Broadway musical, and various films and TV shows. He passed away at 78 just less than two years ago. RIP to a great performer.

The ironic part is he really was a pretty humble guy. He wrote dozens of hits for other artists in his career. He never passed up an opportunity to make fun of himself. A very down to earth and sincere individual.

*LOL - I'm right there laughing with you both. This song is a "HOOT" and yes...it is hard to be humble when you're full of yourself every day.*

What a blast from my past! My mom used to play this record when we were little, and we all sang it together. I found it again last year, and sang my lungs out! It was fun!!! 👏🏻👏🏻

🤣🤣🤣Love your reaction to this song Asia and BJ ❤ The crowd singing along added that extra bit of spice to it😂.Yes BJ, sometimes you got to toot your own horn and I know some people who toot louder than others 😂. Actually Asia I was singing into a wooden spoon because I was making a bread at that time 😂. But don't get me wrong, I'm definately not that type of person 😂 Mac Davis was from Lubbock, Texas and wrote some great songs including In the Ghetto for Elvis Presley. Great reaction once again Asia and BJ to a hilarious song ❤

Mac Davis was a supreme singer-songwriter. His catalog includes song like “It’s Hard to be Humble” to “Lucas was a Redneck” and “In the Ghetto.”

Rest easy sir

Mac Davis was quite the songwriter, he wrote songs for many artists including Elvis Presley. He was the original artist who wrote and recorded "In The Ghetto" back in 1969, he also wrote Elvis's song "Memories" and "A little Less Conversation". Mac Davis had also tried his hand at acting. "It's Hard To Be Humble" was just Mac making a joke out of being a sex symbol back in the day, I don't believe he took himself seriously, I mean, you can hear him crack up in this song, but he had some really beautiful songs too like, "I Believe In Music" and "Stop And Smell The Roses". Thanks for this reaction, it was a treat!

"The Mac Davis Show" was a big thing back in the mid 70's. I remember it was one of the shows that the family anticipated every week back in the days when TV 7/4 and 9/10 were the only two channels that were always available and TV 29 was hit and miss, depending on how much tin foil was wrapped around the rabbit ears. The struggle was real... 😂

Saw Mac in concert a few times in the 70s. This song was a comedy hit.

I remember when this song first came out. My dad would sing this a lot, especially when he had a couple of beers in him.

I remember as a teenager my Dad coming home telling that one of my favorite singers at the time, had wrote a song about him. I remember thinking that I was impressed, for a few minutes, that my Dad knew Mac Davis. Then he played us that song. Lol. Perfect song for my Dad. Lol. Thank you for reacting to the great Mac Davis... brought back some great memories.

Remember listening to this when it first came out, my buddy and I would always sing along as loud as we could! I sent him this video a few weeks ago, he fell out and admitted he had been singing earlier that week when he was grilling for his mom!!! 😃

I missed this video by a year but I knew Mac in his later years. He borrowed my guitar (which I couldn’t play) to finish a song he was writing. He was one of the kindest and most humble people I ever had the privilege of knowing. RIP Mac.

I grew up in the 70’s when variety shows were popular on TV. They featured stand up comedy, sketch comedy, and musical guests. Most were hosted by country singers or comics. The Max Davis show was one of my favorites.

Love this song! I sing along when it's playing, and sometimes even when it's not!
