Let’s talk airbrushing safety! ⚠️ Airbrushing is a technique that allows artists to create gradients and when combined with pottery it can give amazing results. But if this is something you want to try, please do so safely!

Most ingredients in ceramics contain harmful chemicals and/or silica dust, and with long term exposure without following the correct safety precautions can lead to silicosis (lung cancer).

You can see in the video that even with my windows open, it wasn’t enough to get rid of the atomized underglaze particles that came out while airbrushing. And a N95 mask is not enough - trust me I tried at first, but I could smell the underglaze in the air and then quickly switched my ventilation mask with filters.

I didn’t know anything about ceramic safety when I first started and no one told me either - I learned it myself. So I hope by spreading this knowledge you can try out these fun techniques but also safely 😊
