Well, my wife's 2016 CR-V AWD (let's face it, the "4WD" badge isn't really the truth when you consider what a REAL 4WD is capable of doing) is certainly more capable off road than my 2005 RWD Holden Commodore, but it's never going to compete with the 4WD vehicles I work on for a living (Hilux, Ranger, all LandCruiser variants, Jeeps, etc), . The gen 4 CR-V is more of a "well-maintained gravel-roader" than a "soft-roader" (eg: Forester, Rav4) and it certainly isn't an "off-roader." I love my wife's car in its own sweet way, but it's no 4WD, and it wasn't supposed to be one.

I thought it was going to be worse. Not bad considering it doesn't have off-road tires and also it's awd system wasn't designed to be used in off-road

If it's anything like my 2016 CRV the AWD Overheating light must have come on a bunch of times. The AWD system was not meant to get used very much. My old 2003 CRV never had an overheating light come on.
