Whilst I agree that nannies have always been important in the royal households, HM The Queen and Princess Margaret were very close to both their parents. Even with the pressures of kingship & war, George VI & Queen Elizabeth were not distant parents. More accurate accounts indicate their private family life was warm and nurturing, largely due to the influence of Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother). Her own secure and close knit family experience was anything but stuffy & cold.
